What I see happening right now is the changes in how the human race interacts with the world are so unprecedented, so novel, that there is really nothing to contrast and compare it with historically. The intensity of the hostility this inspires in people is on full display in the news each day. Something has to give. In my view it's a greatly expanded understanding of the nature of reality. Only time will tell.
